The duo behind Antwerp’s hottest jewellery export, Katrin Wouters and Karen Hendrix both graduated from the city’s famous Royal Academy of Fine Arts. They started designing jewellery together 20 years ago as best friends and are now a firm part of Antwerp’s fashion scene. The exquisite handiwork and couture finish of their jewellery has earned them international renown.Along the way their mix of refinement and adventure has become more and more sophisticated and so have the materials of their craft; shifting from copper to sterling silver and vermeil mixed with semi-precious stones of onyx, smoky quartz, rhodolite, white sapphire and mother of pearl. W & H seek out the shapes, which best display, the characteristics of semi-precious stones with drops, flowers and rectangles. Humour is an endless inspiration in their work resulting in daring and eclectic pieces. Their quirky designs feature mythical creatures, such as dragons and Pegasus as well as delicate insect wings, leaves and flowers in intricate filigree. They have worked with international designers such as Dries Van Noten, Ann Demuelemeester, Paul Smith, and Paul & Joe. Celebrity fans include Steven Tyler and Kelis. Wouters & Hendrix recently launched their ‘My Favourite’ line, which features a stunning selection of their ultimate key pieces. From a striking oversized filigree ring to a quirky coin medallion and dragon pendant. Each piece epitomizes the Wouters & Hendrix trademark style with a timeless quality. |
